L-Glutamine belongs to the conditional essential Amino Acids. Not to be confused with Glutmaninacid. With a concentration level of %61 in the Amino Acid pool, occurrences of the Amino acid Glutamine are the most highly concentrated in the body. Healthy persons can produce this Amino acid themselves. In certain situations, for example during severe sickness or stress caused by intense sports the body can not produce enough L-Glutamine and must be additionally supplemented with nourishments.

Glutamine is different than other Amino acids because of its 2 extra nitrogen atoms. Glutamines can help guard against symptoms of fatigue. During intensive power training protein is used for energy creation causing ammonia levels to rise. An increase in the ammonia level increases fatigue and inhibits the energy supply. Ammonia is produced in muscles within the Protein Amino group. Freely available Amino groups will be bonded by Glutamine and this can reduce fatigue.

Research has shown that athletes that over train have lower Serum glutamine levels compared to normally trained athletes. This can cause weakening of the immune system. Glutamine is an important energy source produced for the cells of the immune system.
